A Plea For Purging – Depravity
Facedown Records

Rating: ★★★★★★★★★☆

This is the sophomore release off Facedown Records for Nashville’s A plea for purging. This album actually shocked me when I listened to it. All the tracks are catchy and there is something different about each one. While some of the tracks from the last record could have been lost in the shuffle, there is not a single track on this on that you will not enjoy. I’m trying to find a band to compare this with but it actually is sort of in a class by itself. All the tracks on this album are solid. My personal favorites are Halocausts (track 4) and Misantrophy (track 9). Misantrophy has an Alert the Sky feel to it (when you hear it you will know why). No longer will A Plea for Purging be just “another metal band”. This release has separated them from the pack. I know that it’s only March but I think that this record will be hard to beat for album of the year. If you think you don’t like this band, give this record a listen. You will have a different perspective afterwards. When these guys come through your city go see them support them and buy their merch and bring them burritos. They are super sweet dudes and they do a really fun live show.

You can check out the video for the song “malevolence” here.

but legitly its a good album its fun and 10x better then the last album which to me sounded like one big noodley song that went on for 45 min

this mixes it up a lil bit still has the noodley riffs but thank God its not as much as it was

It’s amazing that it has taken this band so long to step out and become noticed- this album really did it for them. Depravity really sets them apart from every other “metalcore” band on the market right now. Joey Sturgis did an INCREDIBLE job working with this band to get it right. They’ve finally come into their own. You really get to see the talent of each individual musician; I can’t wait to hear where they’re going from here.

PS. the “genre” is a little bit more southern/”metalcore” and vocally is channeling his inner Dallas Taylor.

Best album by far to date. It hasn’t left my CD player since the day it came out on 3.3.09
